West Lake Tahoe Regional Water Treatment Plant

Project Overview

The new West Lake Tahoe Regional Water Treatment Plant will provide a steady and reliable source of drinking water from Lake Tahoe. It will be the main water supply for the McKinney-Quail water system. It also will have the capacity to serve other communities along Lake Tahoe’s west shore. This project will create a more connected water system for both drinking water and fire protection.

The TCPUD Board invested more than $30 million in this project. This represents one of the biggest investments ever made to improve and protect the west shore’s water supply.

The project included:

  • Construction of the treatment plant and removal of temporary treatment facilities.
  • Installation of submersible pumps and replacement of water intake pipes in Lake Tahoe.
  • Building a new pump station at the lake.
  • Installing new waterlines from Lake Tahoe to the treatment plant and replacement of existing lines.

We look forward to celebrating the grand opening with the community in 2025!
